Puzzle jug, tin-glazed earthenware, buff body colour, bluish white glaze; outer part of base wiped entirely clean of glaze. Body inscribed: 'Sr/ If this beth' first you've seen Ill lay/ The wager which you'll please to say/ That you drink not this liquor all/ Before that some from th'jug doth fall'. The outer side of the handle has Oriental classic scroll motifs and is flanked on the body by flowering plants. All the decoration is in blue.
The jug is slightly concave on underside, with a round hollow handle with a hole in underside near the top connects with the interior of the jug. Three nozzles project from a hollow tube around the mouth. (Alphabetic shape codes as used in appendix to Archer. Delftware. 1997)
