Place of origin |
Newspaper cutting, probably from The Graphic, with five scenes of the circus at Covent Garden Theatre, featuring: 1) one of the Arab Acrobats; 2) a performance on the slack wire by Mdlle Gisella; 3) a 'graceful double act on two barebacked horses by Jennie O'Brien and Mr. George Gilbert'; 4) Fraulein Eicherlerette exhibiting her troupe of monkeys; 5) Miss Jennie O'Brien firing a rifle with pigeons perched upon it.
Although the slack wire artiste is credited as being Gisella (or Gisela) Madigan, it is likely that this is in fact an image of her step-sister, Elvira Madigan (Hedvig Jensen).
