A mounted figure in armour seated on a rearing horse inscribed MH/ 1669 within a border of panels containing alternating leaves and geometric decoration painted in blue. Three barely discernable stilt marks on the front (9.5/10 cms point to point).
Body colour: Reddish buff.
Glaze: Slightly pinkish dull white on the front. A greenish streaky lead-glaze over a pale slip covers the entire back with the exception of the foot and an area within the foot-rim. The foot-rim has been largely wiped clean of glaze.
Shape: Shape A with much deeper and more pronounced flange rising steeply to the rim. Foot-rim flat, pierced with a single hole before firing. (Alphabetic shape codes as used in appendix to Archer. Delftware. 1997)
