Dish of tin-glazed earthenware, painted. A figure in a long robe holding a covered container, identifiable as Mary Salome, stands in a landscape with trees and buildings painted in blue, ochre, orange and turquoise green. The figure is flanked by the initials C/I A and the date 1637 in blue. The border has bosses in relief painted in ochre and ornament in blue. Three stilt marks on the front (8.5/9 cms point to point). Body colour: Mid-buff. Glaze: Dull white. A clear lead-glaze pooling near the foot and green in places, over a pale slip covers the entire back. The foot-rim has been almost entirely wiped clean of glaze.
Shape: Shape A with deeper, more rounded well and without an everted rim. Pierced with one hole before firing. Flange has bosses pushed up from behind and the rim sharply serrated. (Alphabetic shape codes as used in appendix to Archer. Delftware. 1997)
