This design is related to other designs for Inveraray Castle by Sir John Vanbrugh, which is depicted in E.2124.132 and forms part of a set with E.2124.120, .138 and .139, all of which are also part of the Vanbrugh Album. Inveraray Castle was never built.

This drawing is part of the Vanbrugh Album from the Library at Elton Hall. The Album contains 254 drawings and includes works by Sir John Vanbrugh, Sir Edward Lovett Pearce, William Talman, Nicholas Hawksmoor, Richard Castle and anonymous draughtsmen in Vanbrugh's office. It was created ca. 1945-54 and was purchased by Victoria and Albert Museum in 1992.

Physical description
D of Argyles at Inverary. Sketch plan and elevation of Inveraray Castle, Argyll, ca.1720 but never built. The plan shows four corner towers and circular staircases, and the elevation shows nine bays, with the central pedimented bay having turrets either side.
