Object history | This design was made for Tyrone Guthrie's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera, The Pirates of Penzance, at the Avon Theatre, Stratford, Ontario, 7 July 1961. The production subsequently toured, playing at Her Majesty's Theatre, London, in 1962 (opening on 15 February). At Stratford and on tour Mabel was played by Marion Studholme, whose husband, Andrew Downie, the production's Frederic, gave this design to the Museum. |
