A hand-knotted carpet with a field divided into square or rectangular blocks, each in a shade of brown. There is no other pattern. The dark brown block in the upper left hand corner is an angular L-shape.
The word DORN is knotted in dark brown pile along the lower left hand edge.

Technique:
Warp: white wool; Z3S; 8 threads per inch (32 per dm).
Weft: dark brown wool; Z3S; 2 rows after each row of knots; 4 knots per inch (15 per dm).
Pile: wool; 3 colours: dark brown, brown, light brown; symmetrical knot tied around 2 warp threads; 16 knots per sq. inch (240 per sq.dm).
Side Finish: one cord overcast with brown wool.
End Finish: Returned warp at both ends. One inch of plainweave with white wool; woven mitred corners; turned under and stitched in place.
