A hand-knotted carpet with a field divided into three diagonal areas: moving from cream on the left to dark brown on the right. The central part is patterned with irregular spots and four pink lines. There are scrolling lines in dark brown and cream.
The word DORN is knotted in dark brown wool in the lower left hand corner.
Technique:
Warp: white wool; Z3S; 8 thread per inch (32 per dm).
Weft: dark brown wool; Z3S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 4 knots per inch (16 per dm).
Pile: wool; 6 colours: dark brown, brown, light brown, beige, pink, cream; symmetrical knot tied around two threads; 16 knots per sq. inch (256 per sq.dm).
Side Finish: one cord oversewn with dark brown wool.
End Finish: Returned warp threads at both ends. Half inchof plainweave with white wool weft; woven mitred corners; turned under and stitched in place.
