A hand-knotted carpet with a grey ground and a large, rectangular block of pattern. This has been divided into smaller rectangles filled with triangles and ovals.
The word DORN is knotted in cream pile in the lower right hand corner.
Technique:
Warp: white wool; Z3S; 8 threads per inch (32 per dm).
Weft: brown wool; Z3S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 4 knots per inch (16 per dm).
Pile: wool; 5 colours: light green, brown, light brown, grey, cream; symmetrical knot tied around 2 warp threads; 16 knots per sq. inch (256 per sq.dm).
Side Finish: one cord overcast with grey wool.
End Finish: Returned warp threads at both ends. Half inch of plainweave with white wool weft; woven mitred corners; turned under and stitched in place.
