Place of origin |
Many gifted amateurs made distinguished contributions to photography during the 1850s and early 1860s. This album of family photographs, believed to have been taken by Francis Barchard, shows life at Horsted Place, Sussex, a country house built for Barchard in the Victorian Gothic style between 1850 and 1852. Besides the considerable architectural history interest of this album, the unusually rich imagery includes photographs of servants, interiors and the game of croquet.
