This design is closely related to those of contemporary orange-houses, with six bays in each range. It relates closely to Plan 2 (E.419-1951). The central block was subsequently extended by two bays and a pavilion at each extremity. The central block was eventually completed by the addition of a pediment and a dome. Two related drawings are E.421-1951 and 422-1951.

The design is closely related to those of contemporary orange-houses, with six bays in each range. It relates closely to plan 2 (E.419-1951). See Charles Saumarez Smith (1990). The central block was subsequently extended by two bays and a pavilion at each extremity. The central block was eventually completed by the addition of a pediment and a dome. See L. Whistler (1954). Two related drawings are E.421, 422-1951.

Purchased from the Marquis of Bute at auction at Sotheby's (lot 19.2) on 23 May 1951 by the National Arts Collection Fund and given to the V & A.
