Péter Pócs designed this poster for an exhibition of his work in Miskolc. Always sensitive to political issues, he used a disfigured ‘V’ (for victory) sign as his artist’s statement. The gesture of fingers raised in a ‘V’ spread rapidly as a graphic device in Hungary during the period of democratic transition. The poster protests against what Pócs sees as an imported and overworked sign and asserts the need for fresh, bold artistic solutions. The shocking motif of the severed fingers and the harsh colouring of the poster set an example of the kind of originality the artist is advocating.
