'Lets hope together. Lets change together' is the headline of this campaign poster disseminated during the 1990 elections - the first democratic elections in Romania following the overthrow of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in December 1989. It portrays well-known members of the local intelligentsia who came forward as independent candidates for the Romanian Senate: Octavian Paler, Sorin Dumitrescu, Alexandru Pesamosca, Ascanio Damian, Petru Cretia, and Ioan Marchis. Text on the poster indicates that the Group for Social Dialogue (GDS) supports the candidates pictured. The GDS is a non-governmental organization, founded in 1990, which intervenes in Romanian political life through its weekly magazine 'Revista 22'. The mission of the GDS is promoting democratic and social values. At the bottom of the poster is a quote from Plato "Only the ones who do not love power, must be close to it."
