This is a design for a rug intended for Edgar Kaufmann's office in Kaufmann's Department Store, Pittsburgh. The interior fittings and furniture of the office were given to the Victoria and Albert Museum by Edgar Kauffman, Jr in 1974 (museum no. W.9:1-240-1974).
