These posters are the result of several distinct stages. Initially, pen 'roughs' were drawn on plain paper and submitted for approval. When one was chosen, it was enlarged and coloured using a silk-screen and stencils allowing Linney to lay down by hand, semi-opaque inks to produce gently blended hues. From several of these uniquely coloured screenprints, one was selected as the 'camera-ready' artwork. The dense colour seen at the screenprint stage was preserved at the final stage of printing by the omission of the criss-cross glass screens normally used in photo-lithography to break the image up into the fine dots visible in any mass-produced poster. Linney has recently applied the same approach to the design of record sleeves for the groups The Beloved and UB 40.
