Dr. Péter Hack - Free Democrats

Poster
1990 (designed and printed)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This poster was issued by an electoral office in a Budapest district during the course of the first free elections in Hungary following the collapse of communism. It is a simple design with an informal, cheerful photograph of the young lawyer Péter Hack, a founding member of the Alliance of Free Democrats. The only professionally designed element of the poster is the party logo consisting of three birds in the national colours (designed by György Kara) which was supplied to small district offices by the party headquarters. The smile of the young man was enough in itself to have a positive effect on viewers who were accustomed to stiff old politicians.
