Object history
This is a preliminary design for the decoration of the hall which was in fact to be executed more in accordance with the pencilled amendments. John Adam's sketchbook of 1748 in the RIBA Drawings Collection shows a drawing of the tabernacle in the South wall. (John Harris, The Palladians, Trefoil, 1981, pl.76.)
