Gallery label | Small phonograph cylinders were one of the earliest forms of music that could be played in people's homes. The music was engraved on the outside of a tubular cylinder, which rotated on a record player. Phonographs were decorated - this one with angelic figures. Others carried a portrait of the inventor Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) who developed the format.(1991) |
