STRESS ANALYSIS DRAWINGS FOR A CAR
DESIGN PROJECT
Designed by Ove Arup and Partners
Pen and ink
1980

These drawings, which a part of a larger group, record
work carried out by the civil engineering firm Arup for the
Turin car designers Ideea, in which the architect engineer
Renzo Piano was also involved. This project to assemble
a car from a series of subsystems eventually resulted in the
Fiat Tipo. They were collected both as engineers' drawings,
a category which we are keen to represent, as well as
examples of car design, an area which the Museum is
starting to collect. The drawings were given by Arup under
a standing arrangement whereby drawings passed for
destruction are reviewed by the Museum.
