Necklace
19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Necklace consisting of 4 strings of pearls bearing enamelled gold pendants, the smaller ones set with pearls and green glass beads. The ends of the strands of pearls terminate in emerald and ruby beads, and then in enamelled plaques, which lead to tapes/strings ending in tassels. The terminal enamelled plaques have three holes alternating with the four places where the strands of pearls are attached, as if they have been made with the possibility of attaching a further three strands of pearls in mind. In this case they would have been suitable for a sat-lara or seven-string necklace, a relatively common arrangement. The enamel on the back of these plaques differs from that on the backs of the pendants.
