Object history | A watercolour of this subject in the same sense dated 1799, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1800, no 429 is now in the British Museum [O.o.3-11]. The watercolour and this print are almost the same size. The artist published this print himself suggesting that he supervised the hand colouring. The decoration of this gilt frame: grey bole, red underlining, burnished gilding along the highlights, waterleaf moulding on the cavetto and a laurel leaf filet is characteristic of early nineteenth century picture frames. |
