Object history
A ballet Sadko (which contains a scene under water) was based on music by Rimsky-Korsakov with choreography by Fokine. It was first produced by Diaghilev in Paris in 1911. The décor and costumes for this earlier production were by Boris Anisfeld. The revival for which Goncharova produced the costumes and décor took place in New York in 1916.
Purchased from the artist in 1961.
