Object history
This plate was not decorated at Nantgarw, but probably in London by one of the enamellers employed by the dealer John Mortlock, the decorated ware being fired by Robins and Randall at Spa Fields, Clerkenwell.
There are no details of where Lady Charlotte Schreiber bought these pieces in her annotations to the first edition of the catalogue of the Schreiber catalogue. However, 'Old Papepion' has been inscribed in pencil in another hand, presumably referring to the Brussels dealer Papillon.
