| Object history | The hunting scene is after a work by John Wootton. Acquired as Liverpool porcelain These jugs were purchased by Lady Charlotte Schreiber from Kidson, Liverpool, for £10 in April 1881. In her Journals (vol. II, p. 337, 13 April 1881) she records: '... we went out and explored all the curiosity shops of the town, but with little success, the chief purchase being a pair of jugs of doubtful origin from Kidson's', later adding 'I have seen enough of Liverpool, and never wish to revisit it. The Irish squalor I witnessed there is painful, and disgusting beyond description.' |
