This is electrotype copy of the reverse of a commemorative medal recording the peace between Chile, Peru and Bolivia in 1884. At the top is a condor with outspread wings, bearing the flag of Chile; a winged figure of Victory, holding a palm-branch and olive wreath, flies to the left, while to the right Fame sits on clouds and blows a trumpet. beneath, a battle is being fought outside a walled town, and on the right is a sea-fight. A female figure representing Chile stands to the left with long sword and shield, bearing the arms of that republic; on the other side are two female figures representing Peru and Bolivia with broken shields, having the arms of those states. Legend: CHILE. EN. GUERRA CONTRA EL PERU. I. BOLIVIA. The exergue is filled with a cartouche bearing the following names and dates;- IQUIQUE ANGAMOS PISAGUA SAN- FRANCISCO LOS ANGELES TACNA ARICA CALLAO SAN- JUAN CHORRILLOS MIRAFLORES HUAMACHUCO ARÉQUIPA. 1879-1884. Signed 'L. Bottée Sculpteur.'
