Object history
These two mugs were both purchased by Lady Charlotte Schreiber in May 1869, one from Lee, London, for £1 10 shillings, and the other from Etienne Baud, Lausanne, for £1 12 shillings. In her Journals (vol. I, p. 3) she records 'Again to Mme. Band's ... While with her Mr. Band came in, showed us a beautiful Worcester green mug, painted in birds and gilt, whch we bought at £1 12.' She bought the two dishes with green and gilt borders, 414:527, 528-1885, from Wareham, London, for £1 each in October 1867.
Production
It is possible that the decoration was added in the 19th century, but if so it must predate May 1869 (see Object History note).
