Teawares were consistently in production at Meissen from 1710. This teapot is a standard Meissen shape from around 1722-5 and would almost certainly have been part of a service. During its time in production many different types of scene were painted onto this teapot shape, from commedia dell'arte figures to seascapes. The painted chinese scene on this teapot reflects the popularity of the fashionable Chinoiserie style.

Teapot and cover, porcelain, painted and gilded with chinoiserie scene, Meissen, ca.1725.
Physical description
Broad pear-shaped, with scroll handle and snake spout with mask attachment; domed lid. painted with chinoiserie scene in colours in panels outlined in gilt, red, purple and lustre scrollwork; gilt lacework borders.
