Vase, porcelain with underglaze blue decoration, China, Qing dynasty, Kangxi period (1662-1722)
Physical description
Porcelain vase of cylindrical form with board neck and flared mouth. Painted in underglaze blue, on the body with peonies and and conventional foliage in reserve on a blue ground. Above and below are bands of sceptre-head (ruyi) panels containing formal floral decoration, followed by two bands of diaper pattern. Round the neck with leaf design and scrollwork, and below the mouthrim a band of floral and scrolling foliage.
