Sauce boat with scrolled loop handle of soft-paste porcelain painted with enamels, and round the top are festoons of flowers, fruit, and foliage moulded in relief, and the base is moulded with two goats' heads and two boys' masks among scrollwork, and the inside is painted with a bouquet tied with ribbons, and the outside with scattered flowers, sprays and insects.

Physical description
Sauce boat with scrolled loop handle of soft-paste porcelain painted with enamels, and round the top are festoons of flowers, fruit, and foliage moulded in relief, and the base is moulded with two goats' heads and two boys' masks among scrollwork, and the inside is painted with a bouquet tied with ribbons, and the outside with scattered flowers, sprays and insects.

One of a pair with 414:333-1885 (Sch. I 129). Shape copies silver sauceboats by N. Sprimont.
The pair was purchased by Lady Charlotte Schreiber from 'Mr Thackery's sale', Christie's, for £16 in June 1870

The style of flower and insect painting on certain 'A' marked cups is linked to that on certain early Chelsea pieces such as this sauceboat and its companion. '...The hand of the 'A-marked flower painter' can be found on a rather large group of Chelsea pieces from the earliest years of the triangle period such as 'goat and bee' and other jugs, strawberry dishes etc. It is also probable, but less easy to be certain, that some of the Kakiemon designs found on A-marked wares and Triangle period Chelsea are by the same hand....'
