The Old Vic Company's two-week tour of the former Yugoslavia visited Belgrade, Zagreb and Ljublijana, and its opening in Belgrade on 19th March 1959 was tremendously successful, receiving 17 curtain calls. The production, directed by Michael Benthall and designed by Audrey Cruddas, had appeared in 1957 at London's Old Vic Theatre with Judi Dench as a last-minute replacement for Barbara Jefford as Ophelia, marking her London debut for the company.
The cast incuded John Neville as Hamlet, Oliver Neville as Claudio, David Dodimead as Horatio, Joss Ackland as Marcello, Joseph O'Conor as Polonius, Oliver Nevillle as Claudio and Margareet Courtenay as Gertrude, who kept this poster as a souvenir.
