Margaret Courtenay (1923-1996) who owned this photograph was a member of the Old Vic Company's 1956-1957 season when she played Lady Capulet in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet directed by Robert Helpmann and designed by Loudon Sainthill, at the Old Vic Theatre from 12th June 1956 to 7th July 1956. Starring John Neville as Romeo, Claire Bloom as Juliet, and Paul Rogers as Mercutio, this was one of the four plays the company toured in North America from 1956 to 1957, along with Richard ll, Macbeth and Troilus & Cressida.
The Ball Scene, Act 1 scene v, is when Romeo and his friends come in disguise to Lord Capulet's party, where Romeo sees Juliet for the first time, and falls in love with her.
