Object history | This poster presents a deliberately objective, faceless promotion of a unique, collaborative single. Pump Up the Volume was an aural collage of musical samples taken from some 30 recordings laid upon an existing piece by 4AD artists Colourbox and A. R. Kane. Its tremendous popularity (it topped the 12-inch single sales chart for 1987), resulted in the anonymity of its original, ‘white label’ aspect being replaced by the more distinctive though still non-human, typographical ‘persona’ seen here. |
