Historical context
Modern English were one of the first bands to be released on the 4AD label, set-up in late 1979 by Ivo Watts-Russell under the auspices of Beggars Banquet Records. Oliver designed Modern English record sleeves and this poster before working full-time for 4AD in 1983.
