Lego Braille Bricks are specially-designed to help blind and visually impaired children and adults learn braille. Each brick is moulded with studs to depict a different letter or number in the braille alphabet. These bricks come in five colors - white, yellow, green, red and blue — and remain fully compatible with existing LEGO toy products. The printed version of the letter or number is also on the brick.
The toolkit was launched in 2020 in the UK through a partnership of the Lego Foundation and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB). To enhance the play experience and support pre-braille skill development, a series of supporting play starters are available for free online which aim to teach players how to orient, attach and stack the bricks through well-known games, such as Rock, Paper, Scissors, which can be played with peer and family groups.
