This panel of modelled stucco is by an unknown artist from the Alhambra in Granada, Spain and was made in the 14th century.

It shows a star pattern radiating from the centre and from each corner, and is composed of double straps, with foliage at a lower level in the interstices.

Stucco is a material made of an aggregate like for example sand, a binder and water. It is applied wet and hardens to a very dense solid. It is used as a coating for walls and ceilings and for decoration.
