Object history
The form is based on the Thonet cafe chairs of the 19th century, mostly notably no.18 of 1876, translated from bentwood into plastic. In 1996, about 180,000 Ogla chairs were produced annually in a single Swedish factory, exclusively for Ikea. The green/grey chair is advertised as being recyclable, as the entire chair is made of a single virgin material. The chair has been kept in its flat-packed state as a record of the manner in which Ikea furniture is retailed.
