Object history | The form is based on the Thonet cafe chairs of the 19th century, mostly notably no.18 of 1876, translated from bentwood into plastic. As of 1996 about 180,000 Ogla chairs were produced annually in a single Swedish factory, exclusively for Ikea. Of these, approximately 20,000 included recycled polypropylene. The grey chair is the only colour in the range to have included recycled polypropylene. Sixty percent of the material used in the chair is recycled post-industrial waste from the food packaging industry. |
