This elegant firegrate was probably from a drawing room in a wealthy town house. It was possibly made by Carron and Company (1758-1982) which became one of the largest iron works in Europe in the 19th century.

Physical description
Grate. Steel and cast iron..Bow front with three bars and with projecting wings, each surmounted by two urn-shaped knobs. Pierced apron with a band of wavy scrolls, above one of open fluting divided into panels by five round bosses; below is a band of guilloche. The cast iron back (a modern replacement) with a fan-light shaped cresting decorated with tracery formed of husk-ornament.
