Cream or white suits have been fashionable summer wear since the late 19th century. They became very popular again in the 1960s, and this style of suit was then at the height of fashion. The jacket is shaped to the waist and has a waist seam that is similar to waist seams on early 19th-century coats. Consequently this style was called 'Regency'. The trousers are 'hipsters', belted at the hips rather than the waist.
