Artist/Maker
Place of origin

In the 18th century pottery made in imitation of polished Agate, a naturally found stone was exceedingly popular. There are two types known - solid Agate, made by wedging coloured clays together, and ‘surface’ Agate - achieved by blending coloured slip on the surface of Queen’s ware, or a fine earthenware body. Wedgwood first produced both varieties of Agate Ware in the 1770s when it peaked in popularity. There were revivals of Agate inspired bodies in the 19th and 20th century.
