This portrait is of Josiah Wedgwood I (1730-1795), founder of Wedgwood. It was painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), an influential 18th century painter specialising in portraits. Reynolds was a founding member of the Royal Academy, becoming its first president, and was knighted by King George III in 1769.
