Furnishing Fabric

1827 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Although roller-printing was faster and cheaper than block-printing, some firms who used woodblocks, Bannister Hall printworks, for example, maintained their position as leading manufacturers of high quality furnishings by using innovative and constantly changing designs. The lightly printed fern-like leaves seen in this design were popular from 1826 until 1830.

This cotton has been given a glazed appearance which was achieved by subjecting it to various finishing processes; most cottons lose this sheen when they are washed.
