Object history
The upper image is probably by Mayakovsky the lower probably by Malevich. The upper is captioned: "that moon (month) the Turks sailed with their half moon". This puns on the word for moon/month and plays on the `half moon' Turkish emblem and those under the influence of the moon being slightly crazy. The lower image is captioned "Looks as though the Turks had not forseen that they would all drown at Synope. Lubok of Today only published from August-November 1914.
