This architectural boss is by an unknown artist from about 1400 and shows the Flagellation.
The boss is of carved sandstone and shows a group in the centre of which stands the Saviour facing to the front, His raised hands and His feet bound to the column. Of the nine half-figures bearing scourges and other instruments, two alone are well preserved - a helmeted figure on the right with a scourge, and a bearded figure above him holding a sword.

In Christian art the Flagellation, also called Christ at the Column, is a frequently shown scene from the Passion of Christ.

The boss is said to have been found near Pentney Priory, Norfolk.
