Abaya 01
2018 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
Abaya 01 is based on the traditional forms and design details of Middle Eastern textiles, that Nour Hage studied from the V&A's collections during her artistic Fellowship at the museum from 2021-2. Here, the abaya, a traditional loose-fitting overgarment, has been reimagined as a winter jacket. Whilst speaking to historic Middle Eastern costume, Abaya 01 is made of ethically-sourced English wool and cotton, and woven at a Syrian-owned mill.
The Abaya is part of Nour Hage's Zero One (01) collection, named after the first two Arabic numerals, the most common system for the symbolic representation of numbers in the world today.
