The designers chose a wood-engraved pattern paper, designed by artist John Lawrence (born 1933), for the Fleming Investment Trust's annual report cover to reflect a sense of tradition and quality, as befitted the bank's target clients (aged 55 or over) and their status as one of the oldest merchant banks. It also provided the flexibility to be reused in future products. Copies of the report can be seen at E.717-1994, and E.4029-1995 - E.4040-1995 inclusive.
