The Wedgwood company catered for all needs and even manufactured compact paint boxes, complete with a palette and small paint pots, to assist 18th-century ladies in their artistic pursuits. Josiah Wedgwood’s innovative Jasper clay could be intricately modelled to suit designs in the popular Neo-classical style, as seen in the delicate reliefwork adorning this paint box.

Physical description | Oval paintbox in blue jasperware, with white classical reliefs of cupids around the outside of the box. Lid of paintbox, blue jasperware with white reliefs, decorated with a leaf border around the outside and a central flower motif around a lotus-shaped finial. Contains jasperware paint palette, and flat holder with 12 holes to hold a set of 12 paint cups. |
