The medal depicts the bust of Pope Alexander VI to the left, wearing a cope. On the reverse there is a view of the Castel Sant Angelo.
Pope Alexander VI (b. 1431; d. 1503) was born in Valencia, Spain, as Roderic Llançol or Rodriquez Lanzola Borgia and was Pope from 1492 until his death. He was the most controversial of the secular popes of the Renaissance. He had four children with his mistress Vannozza dei Cattani.
