Object history
This pressed figure designed by Phoebe Stabler and made by Harold Stabler was almost certainly fired at Poole, as were a number of their designs before 1920. The ‘Lavender Woman’ was later produced and sold in quantity by Carter, Stabler and Adams in similar colours. Another modelled version of the figure exists in the Museum’s collection with slight variations and different glazes, and was probably fired in the Stabler’s own kiln at Hammersmith. This same figure again with slight variations was also produced by Royal Doulton under the title ‘Madonna of the Square’.
