| Object history | The cabinet is said to have been designed by Alfred Stevens for his own use. According to Hugh Stannus, author of Alfred Stevens and His Work, 1891, p. 28, 'the study and bedroom furniture had been made by his old carpenter, Moss, in 1859 and 60, to fill up his time....' The cabinet was later owned by James Gamble who inserted his copy after a Michelangelo into the upper door. It was given to the Museum in 1974 by Rev. Canon K.H. Druitt, grandson of James Gamble. |
